Describing Lesions

3

Use morphology + SCAM to describe skin lesions!

Some aspects of skin lesion morphology to consider when describing a particular lesion are its colour, shape, consistency, elevation or depression, temperature, mobility, and the presence of any other identifying features such as ulceration, scale, crusting, or slough. Additionally, it is important to consider the distribution – e.g., flexural, extensor, dermatomal, et cetera – and the symmetry of the lesions on the body, as well as how demarcated lesions are from each other (discrete versus confluent).

This is a great mnemonic! Would be good if you could do a study post reminding us of the definitions of macules / papules / vesicles / nodules / patch / plaque etc.
